District Council are encouraging about recent site.
Geoffrey Clifton-Brown said today that he was encouraged by a letter from Cotswolds District Council on future plans for Fairford Hospital. Mr Clifton-Brown sent a letter to the Planning Department on 7 November, supporting plans for a replacement for the cottage hospital, at Morgan Hall, a site off Cinder Lane. Their response recognises the huge local support for the plan, and stated that the District Council were supportive “in principle of a replacement for the former cottage hospital”.
Mr Clifton-Brown said:
"This letter is encouraging, however there is still a significant amount of work to do, both in terms of planning and by ensuring that there are sufficient capital resources, including the proceeds of the sale of the old site.”
The letter states that the District Council have concerns regarding the historic parkland setting of Morgan Hall, a listed building, and that the site is within Fairford Conservation Area. It mentions that the Planning Department have met with the Friends of Fairford Hospital, who were advised that ultimately the decision would be made by Councillors on the Council Planning Committee. It also notes the “significant local support” for the new hospital to be located at Morgan Hall.
Mr Clifton-Brown added:
“I reiterate my total support for this new site for the hospital. The Friends, Fairford’s Mayor, Chris Roberts and the local community all do outstanding work by keeping up pressure for the new hospital. I am glad that they feel, as I do, that a new facility must be provided as soon as possible.”
