19 August 2019

Today I signed a letter to the health leadership, urging them to rule out closing Cheltenham’s A&E. While I welcome the announcement that it will not close in September, from discussions I have had today, I feel clarity on the future plans are urgently required.

I was informed today that plans for the One Gloucestershire Engagement process would be going ahead. It will be taking place despite my protests that the process had been sprung upon us with no warning and at a time when many people are away, I very much depreciate this. I have been assured that the next stages will include comprehensive publicity, involving a Citizen Jury and a full consultation process in the New Year. The wording of the engagement document implies that One Gloucestershire are pushing a strong agenda to close Gloucestershire A&E, so it is therefore essential that all those who oppose these plans submit their opposition during the engagement process.

I have also insisted on a meeting during the first week of September with the NHS management and my colleagues, so we can fully discuss the future agenda.
