MP demands Health Secretary comes clean.
Geoffrey Clifton-Brown today demanded that Health Secretary Alan Johnson, gives a clear indication of how he plans for services to be delivered at Cirencester Hospital. For some months, Mr Clifton-Brown has raised the future of Cirencester Hospital, and its proposed Contract with UK Specialist Hospitals, directly with Health Ministers, in writing and in meetings with Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust.
Mr Clifton-Brown said: “Patients, staff and consultants need to know in which direction Cirencester Hospital is headed. The Government’s answers, each time, far from clarifying the situation has merely presaged further delay and obfuscation. The Contract for UKSH is apparently sitting on the Secretary of State’s desk, but the latest Written answer to me indicates that he will not make a decision until ‘late Summer’.”
Mr Clifton-Brown added: ““Private sources indicate that the Prime Minister is reviewing contracts of this kind, and there is some doubt that a Brown government will allow health services to be provided by independent contractors. I pledge to keep pressing Ministers, to secure answers on the future of Cirencester Hospital, one way or another.”
