Commuters on the Swindon to Kemble line will be able to look forward to faster journey times once the redoubling of the line is completed.
In a letter to Cotswold MP, Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, the Minister for Railways at the Department for Transport, the Rt Hon Theresa Villiers MP, confirmed that:
“We have changed the scope of the Swindon-Kemble redoubling to a higher line speed of 110mph from the earlier plan of 100mph”
“This should enable a further reduction in journey time on services.”
Commenting on this news Mr Clifton-Brown said: “A further reduction in journey times for commuters on the Swindon to Kemble line will obviously be extremely good news.”
“The initial intention of the redoubling project was to improve reliability and increase journey times by removing needless delays caused by the bottleneck of the single track, however, the extra speed at which trains will be able to travel comes as a welcome bonus on top.”
