Clifton-Brown "delighted" by reprieve for Stroud Maternity Unit

The Government has agreed to shelve the proposed closure of Stroud Maternity Unit, after several months of relentless campaigning by furious residents, hospital workers and unions.

Cotswolds MP, Geoffrey Clifton-Brown today said:
“I am delighted that Stroud Maternity has been saved, this is great news for expectant mothers, their babies and their families. I would like to offer my sincerest congratulations to the campaigners who fought to keep the hospital open, their perseverance and hard work has paid off. It was my pleasure to take part in the march to save the hospital, and to be able to speak at the Cheltenham rally in July on this very subject.

Mr Clifton-Brown added:
“This result safeguards the health and wellbeing of expectant mothers throughout the Cotswolds. Clearly, a great deal of anxiety could have been avoided had this proposal never seen the light of day. However, I am thankful that local opinion, and the efforts of local residents including marches and petitions, throughout the consultation process, has been heeded.”
