Statement on Covid Tier 2 Restrictions

I am delighted that Gloucestershire remains in Tier 2, a relief for so many people and businesses. There has been a lot of lobbying happening in Parliament in the last week, the rates in the Cotswolds have thankfully remained very low compared to other areas of the country and I have been fiercely defending our position to Ministers.

While good news to many, I am keen to push for caution in the next couple of weeks. We are in an economic area with the rest of Gloucestershire and hospitals are under tremendous pressure right now which will quickly have an impact on us in the Cotswolds if they become overwhelmed. Let's enjoy the Christmas period but be sensible and follow guidance, the best way to keep the rate of infection low and avoid moving to Tier 3 in the New Year.

With kind regards,

Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP
