On Monday, Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, Member of Parliament for the North Cotswolds, visited Eastcott Way in Churchdown to witness firsthand the impact of recent flooding on local residents. At least four homes were flooded as the result of uncleared road gullies.
During the visit, Sir Geoffrey met with local residents who have been working tirelessly to mitigate the damage and heard himself how the flooding could have been avoided if Gloucestershire Highways responded to constituents' calls for action. It was only through the initiative of one public spirited resident, who took it upon themselves to clear the road gullies, that anything was done about it. The MP praised their efforts and everyone who came together to help sweep the driveways and keep water out of the houses. He also stressed the importance of immediate action from Gloucestershire Highways to prevent future flooding in the area.
“It is deeply concerning to see the impact of this flooding on Eastcott Way. I was appalled to learn of the delay from Gloucestershire Highways and I will be writing to them to demand a full review of what has happened and what they will do to ensure it does not happen again. The weather will continue to get worse over the coming months and so it is vital that all levels of local government are prepared. I will continue to work closely with community leaders to ensure they get the support they need.”
