Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown discusses a campaign to extend free school meals with local MYP

Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown discusses a campaign to extend free school meals with our local Member of Youth Parliament for Cotswolds and Stroud along with Mr White, Deputy Principle at Cotswolds School.

Sir Geoffrey said:

“I met with Maya, the Member of Youth Parliament for Cotswolds and Stroud along with Mr White, Deputy Principle at Cotswolds School to discuss the campaign to extend free school meals. We had a very good discussion and I explained expanding school meals universally would cost well over 1 billion pounds and it was unlikely that the government would agree to that.

“Free school meals are available for students at state-funded schools who live in a household with an income of £7,500 per year or less. We agreed that I would research what the cost of increasing this threshold to £10,500 or £12,500 would be. Once we had that information, Maya, with the help of her co-MYPs would write a submission to the Secretary of State for Education, and depending on the reply if it is possible, I will seek a debate in the House of Commons.

“I would like to thank Maya for all her work as an MYP, I really enjoyed our conversation and hopefully, we can progress this campaign. Thank you also to Mr. Morgan, Head Teacher of Cotswolds School for supporting and hosting our meeting.”
