Cotswold MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown last Friday (20 May) officially opened Bourton-on-the-Water’s new Rye Crescent Play Area.

The future of the play area had been under threat due to dwindling usage and the declining state of the equipment. Following a campaign spearheaded by Bourton-on-the-Water Parish Council funding for a renovation was secured from Cotswold District Council, Gloucestershire Playing Field Association as well as from the Parish Council itself.

The renovated play area now boasts a wide range of new equipment and is sure to attract the attention of many of the children living in and near the large residential area.

Commenting on the opening Mr Clifton-Brown said: “This is a fantastic new facility for the children of Rye Crescent and the surrounding areas.”

“The improvement on the previous play area is enormous and I pay tribute to the Parish Council, the Parishioners of Bourton-on-the-Water, Cotswolds District Council and the Gloucestershire Playing Field Association for their hard work and for their contributions to the funding for the restoration of the play area. This is a superb example where a number of groups and agencies have come together to provide the local community with an excellent new facility.”

“Having a safe and fun place for children to play is such an important part of a local community and I have no doubt that children will thoroughly enjoy this wonderful new play area.”
