Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, Member of Parliament for The Cotswolds, was delighted to meet with Professor Steven Walker Director General of Campden BRI, and had a thorough visit of the Campden BRI and see how it is obviously going from strength to strength.

Commenting on the visit, Mr Clifton-Brown said “It performs a vital function on behalf of the UK food industry, ensuring that our food is safe and that the ingredients are true to the label and also plays a key role in the innovation and development of new food products. Their role was especially relevant during the Horsemeat scandal

It was impressive to see that most of the major food and drink companies are in one form or another involved with the Campden BRI.

I was pleased to be able to have discussions as to how Campden could expand and add to the 300 people it already employs, which I will take up with Cotswold District Council about the planning implications which this might involve”

Professor Walker and Mr Clifton-Brown also discussed how the Government could help with the important work done at Campden BRI to provide Research and Development to the British Food Industry. They both agreed it would be beneficial to invite the Rt Hon David Willetts MP, Minister of State for Universities and Science, to Campden BRI so that he can see with his own eyes the excellent work that is being carried out.

On that visit, Mr Geoffrey Clifton-Brown said “Hopefully that visit might take place before the end of the year.”
