Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP and District Cllrs Robert Dutton and Ally Coggins recently met with Moreton Town Council regarding the car parking problems in Moreton-in-Marsh.

Everyone present agreed that there was a significant problem that needed to be resolved and the town council agreed in principle to pay for a Traffic Regulation Order to implement a scheme. The first phase of which was to designate proper parking space on the High Street to resolve the safety issue of pedestrians and overhanging cars.

The second phase would involve some form of regulation and an alternative extra parking facility. Sir Geoffrey strongly urged the town council to be brave an get on with implementing a scheme because the longer the process takes the more Moreton will suffer from tourists avoiding the town. Furthermore, GWR have expressed concern about designating Moreton as a stopping station for their new express trains because of a lack of car parking provision. This would be severe hit to locals and businesses alike.

Commenting on the meeting, Sir Geoffrey said:

“It is fair to say that there is a parking problem in Moreton and in order to have some regulation on the High Street, an alternative car parking site must be found.

“I strongly urged the Town Council to be brave and get on with working out the details of what most people can see is a viable solution. The longer this is delayed, the more Moreton-in-Marsh will suffer.”
