The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, the Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP, has announced that a decision on the application for the construction of 300 homes by CALA Homes in Moreton-in-Marsh has been delayed and will now be made on or before 1 April 2011.

Initially the decision was due to be issued by 15 February, however, following the High Court’s decision to overturn the Secretary of State’s cancellation of Regional Strategies the Planning Inspectorate has had to delay the preparation of their report pending any views received from the parties.

The initial application by CALA Homes was rejected by Cotswold District Council in June of last year, however, CALA Homes appealed the decision in October at which point the Government launched a planning inquiry into the application.

Commenting on the decision Cotswold MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown stated, “I understand that this delay will cause uncertainty, especially as it follows the successful application at the Fire College for a further 300 homes . However, the Coalition Government’s major reform to the planning system is bound to take time and unfortunately this application has directly coincided with this process.”
