Local MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown has congratulated Coln House School on receiving an ‘Outstanding’ report from Ofsted.
The inspector praised the progressive and forward thinking leadership provided by the Head teacher, Chris Clarke, and Head of Care, Sandra Rogers, whose ethos of ‘wanting to do a job well’ runs through the whole school.
Coln House is the only residential special school in Gloucestershire run by the county council, and caters for 35 pupils in five separate house areas.
Parents, carers and social workers were equally positive in their assessment of the school and said that pupils make excellent progress in all sorts of ways including improved reading ability and better behaviour at home.
This comes following a recent visit to the school made by the Cotswolds MP, Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, who was given and tour of the school’s extensive facilities and met staff and governors.
Chair of Governors, Richard Wilkinson was delighted by the MP’s visit:
“We were keen to show Mr Clifton-Brown all the brilliant work which goes on here, particularly at a time when the government is changing the way it funds special education which could have major implications for the school.
“Our recent Ofsted success just goes to prove the amazing job our staff do - the report commended the standard of accommodation, the professional and caring staff and the variety of activities available to our young people most of whom, when asked what they would do to make the school better, replied ‘I cannot think of anything’. What better compliment could a school want?” concluded Mr Wilkinson.
Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP said:
“I was delighted to visit Coln House School and I am not surprised that the school had such an excellent Ofsted report.
“The care and dedication given to some of Gloucestershire’s most challenging children was outstanding.
“I have invited Mark Hawthorne, the Leader of the County Council to visit the school to discuss how the facilities could be upgraded,” concluded the Cotswolds MP.
