Ahead of the closure of the Kemble-Swindon rail line Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, Member of Parliament for the Cotswolds has said: “I was naturally delighted when the Chancellor announced the £45 Million investment into the Kemble to Swindon rail line redoubling works, which followed a ten year campaign by me to achieve this.
“Obviously this work meant that at some point Network Rail would have to close the line to allow the crucial and necessary work to realign the current track and lay another one, to take place. This closure is all part of the planned operation which was decided last year.
“I attended the opening of the new garden at Kemble Station on the 25th July, with HRH The Prince of Wales, which was a fantastic occasion. At this event I spoke with both Network Rail and First Great Western who assured me that the works are still on schedule for the Kemble-Swindon track to reopen in time for Easter next year.”
