The users of Kemble Station car park and residents of Kemble have received the welcome news that the car park at Kemble Station is to be extended following a successful bid by First Great Western to the Government, which Cotswold MP, Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, has been campaigning on for some considerable time.
The bid by First Great Western, made with a strong letter of support from Mr Clifton-Brown, has secured £145,000 for the Kemble Station car park extension. It is currently hoped that this will allow 65 new car parking spaces to be added.
The funding for the extension will come from the Department for Transport’s £100 million Station Development Facility, which is administered by Network Rail.
Commenting on this news Mr Clifton-Brown said: “This is very good news for both commuters and the local residents of Kemble.”
“At present, Kemble Station car park is full on a daily basis and the result is that some commuters park in the village causing the residents of Kemble a great deal of inconvenience.“
“As a result of the redoubling of the Swindon to Kemble railway line the number of commuters choosing to use the route should increase. The consequence of this is that there should be even more people using the Kemble Station car park and the parking problems in the car park and the overspill into the village will only worsen.”
“I am, therefore, delighted that First Great Western have been able to secure the funding for an expansion, which I hope will alleviate some of the current problems, and I will continue to press both First Great Western and Network Rail to work together to provide a complete solution to the problems commuters and local residents currently face.”
