Cotswolds MP discusses our Health Service with County chief.

Geoffrey Clifton-Brown today met with the Chief Executive of Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust, Jan Stubbings, to discuss health care provision in the Cotswolds.

Mr Clifton-Brown said:
“I was very encouraged by this meeting with Ms Stubbings. After a tumultuous year for our hospitals and the patients, the PCT’s financial management seems to have greatly improved. The PCT is headed for a greatly reduced deficit at the end of this financial year, and are budgeting for a balanced budget next year.”

The meeting was arranged to discuss the plans for a new hospital in Fairford, the contractual arrangements with the new independent contractors at Cirencester Hospital, the plans for Moreton-in-Marsh District Hospital and Moore Cottage Hospital in Bourton-on-the-Water.

“Ms Stubbings has reassured me that plans for Fairford are being discussed by the PCT in May and that they will not be sidelined by other priorities. Contract negotiations are at an advanced stage with UK Specialist Hospitals (UKSH) for the takeover at Cirencester Hospital. I expect UKSH to take charge next year. The business case for new hospital at Moreton has been accepted, and these plans, and those for Moore Cottage at Bourton-on-the-Water are on track. Ms Stubbings also said that she is building cooperation with Gloucestershire Social Services about the provision of home visits of health and social service visitors. "

He added:
“I am delighted by these reassurances. Earlier fears that funds would drain out of the Cotswolds to the rest of Gloucestershire seem now to be unfounded under Jan Stubbings’ professional management.”
