MP for The Cotswolds, Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, visited the headquarters of the highly successful Renishaw Plc in Wotton-under-Edge last Friday (27 April) as the company were celebrating the acceptance of their 15th Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
During his visit Mr Clifton-Brown met with a number of Renishaw representatives including Ben Taylor, Assistant Chief Executive, Allen Roberts, Group Finance Director, and Chris Pockett, Head of Communications.
Renishaw specialise in the production of world class, high precision measuring technology for use in many industries, including manufacturing and healthcare. Renishaw received its latest Queen’s Award in the Innovations category for its highly innovative SP80 ultra-high accuracy analogue scanning probe, which is used on co-ordinate measuring machines for the highly accurate measurement of complex parts such as automotive and power train components. This is the company’s fifteenth Queen’s Award since its formation in 1973, and its sixth in just nine years.
This award comes on top of Renishaw’s excellent financial results announced in January that saw the company return record first half year revenue of £147.1m, up 11% from £132.2m on the same time period the year before. This increase in revenue was based on a significant increase in the company’s exports to Europe, the Americas and the Far East as a result of Renishaw’s strong global presence, with more than 50 offices in 31 countries and 95% of their sales being made outside the UK
The majority of Renishaw’s R&D and manufacturing business is carried out in the UK, primarily in Gloucestershire. Renishaw also have assembly facilities located near to Dublin, Ireland and in Pune, India.
Commenting after his visit to Renishaw Mr Clifton-Brown said: “It was a pleasure to visit Renishaw who are without doubt one of the most successful companies in Gloucestershire, with its headquarters based in Wotton-under-Edge.”
“Their world beating technology has been recognised by the award of yet another Queen’s Award for Enterprise, a highly prestigious award which is only given for outstanding achievement by UK businesses.”
“The performance of Renishaw in these difficult economic times makes their achievements even more impressive and I wish them luck for their continuing success into the future.”
