The Department of Communities and Local Government this afternoon announced the preferred bidder for the National Fire College in Moreton-in-Marsh.

Welcoming the news, local MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown said:

“I warmly welcome today’s announcement by the Fire Minister, Brandon Lewis MP.

“The Fire College has lacked strategic direction and infrastructure investment for many years, to the extent that in the last year or so I became extremely concerned about its future.

“The decision by the previous Fire Minister to sell the college to the private sector marks a decisive change in direction.”

The Cotswold MP went on to say:

“A great deal of work culminated in today’s announcement that Capita are the preferred bidder. This is extremely good news for the college as Capita have confirmed that many millions of pounds will be invested in the college over the next few years.

“I am aware that it is Capita’s intention to make the college not only a world class training centre for fire-fighters, but also to widen its role to encompass a range of other agencies for national emergency planning.

“I believe this is very welcome news not only those who work at the college, and for those local contractors who will be involved in building the new infrastructure, but also because in future years there is the prospect of many more jobs coming to Moreton-in-Marsh and the surrounding area,” concluded Mr Clifton-Brown MP
