Clifton-Brown monitors situation, and asks all residents to contact him if they experience any problems.

Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, has today issued a statement following news that two thousand homes in Fairford, Horcott, parts of Lechlade and Whelford are suffering from discoloured water. Thames Water have circulated letters to the 2,000 affected homes, and are asking that customers boil water for drinking and cooking purposes as a precaution.

“Early this morning I spoke to Thames Water regarding the discoloured water supply in the Fairford area. I asked that they keep me informed of all progress, and continue to give me updates of when they estimate this problem will be corrected. They reassured me that they will let residents know if there are any developments, and that they are working with the local Health Protection Agency to monitor water quality.

While I recognise that recent rainfall has been heavy, and this may have washed sediment into the groundwater, I will be monitoring all health complaints of my constituents, and ask that they ring the Thames Water helpline: 08459 200 800, should they have any problems. Alternatively ring me, and I will take up cases with Thames Water on their behalf: 0207 219 5043.”

Statement re discoloured water supply in Fairford area

We delivered letters early yesterday evening to two thousand homes in Fairford, Horcott, parts of Lechlade and Whelford following around 20 complaints of discoloured water.

We are asking customers to boil water for drinking and cooking purposes as a precautionary measure. The arrangements are likely to remain in place

over the next few days while further tests are carried out. We will review the situation with the local Health Protection Agency, and let customers know of any change.

We believe the recent heavy rainfall has washed sediment into the groundwater that feeds the water treatment works at Fairford, leading to the reports of discoloured water. We are not aware of any complaints of illness.

Fairford water treatment works has been taken out of use until the problem has been resolved. Water is being brought to the area from an unaffected source, and indications are that the problem is abating.

We would like to apologise to our customers for the disruption and to bear with us while we carry out further investigations. They can call us for more information on 08459 200 800.
