Cotswolds MP, Geoffrey Clifton-Brown visits Simon & Sarah Righton at Old Farm B&B, near Dorn, to celebrate the launch of their new website "www.localbreakfast.co.uk."

The new website aims to promote B&Bs and local food online, increasing the demand for locally produced food and boosting the rural economy.

Mr. Clifton-Brown said:
"Following my Local Food is Miles Better" Early Day Motion, I am delighted to be able to visit Old Farm to help launch the Rightons' Local Breakfast initiative. The Cotswolds is leading the way with this scheme, and I am very keen to support local producers promote their fresh and delicious produce to a wider market. Some of which I have sampled today."

The launch today follows, in January 2006, the launch of www.cotswoldbreakfast.com by nine Cotswolds B&Bs. This pilot project sought to raise the profile of friendly B&Bs and the rich variety of local food available in the Cotswolds.

Following the enthusiastic response both from B&Bs and visitors alike www.localbreakfast.co.uk is now being rolled out nationally.

Local Breakfast spokesman, Sarah Righton said:

"We were really pleased that Geoffrey was able to attend the launch of www.Local Breakfast.co.uk ; he is absolutely committed to raising the local food issue, and understands the benefits of our scheme to B&Bs, local producers and the local economy as a whole. The new web site will provide a market place for B&Bs using local produce around the country, and will become the first point of call for discerning visitors who care about what they eat as well as where they stay. By introducing visitors to the local food concept we can help to educate and re-engage people with the fantastic food available in Britain, helping to change their shopping and eating habits when they return home. Other B&Bs can also benefit from group buying, social events and exchange of ideas."

LOCAL FOOD IS MILES BETTER CAMPAIGN

That this House supports Farmer's Weekly's Local Food is Miles Better campaign; believes that buying locally grown food is an excellent way for consumers to reconnect with farmers and develop a better understanding of where their food comes from; recognises that producing and buying food locally can help the environment, boost the economy, and support British farming; and calls for supermarkets to promote, stock and label locally produced food to cut food miles and support local producers.
