uring the 2005 General Election, Cotswolds MP, Geoffrey Clifton-Brown met with local residents in South Cerney to discuss the continuing sewage flooding in their area. Mr Clifton-Brown pledged to make every effort to solve the problem.

Mr Clifton-Brown convened a series of meetings between affected local residents and Thames Water, and finally at a meeting held last week, Thames Water were forced to commit £5 million to a new sewage scheme. Work on the scheme will begin next February, it should be completed by the late Summer.

Mr Clifton-Brown said:
“The problems in South Cerney are amongst the most serious that I have witnessed as a Member of Parliament. I am delighted to have been able to assist residents with this terrible situation, and to have found a solution. This financial commitment by Thames Water comes five years ahead of their planned expenditure, and will happily eliminate the problem."
