The Member of Parliament for The Cotswolds, Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, has urged residents of Cirencester to respond to his town-wide survey on the future of Cirencester.

The aim of this survey, which will be delivered to every household, is to find out what residents think and what they would like to see for Cirencester to evolve properly in the future. This survey will be one of the largest pieces of research ever carried out into residents’ views on infrastructure, housing and public services are needed for the town’s increasing population.

One of the most important decisions to ever affect Cirencester, the Chesterton development, will soon be taking place and the effects that this will have on the town and residents with the Section 106 agreement have not yet been properly discussed. The ring road will have extra roundabouts and speed limits but how many people know about this?

With as many responses to this survey as possible, Mr Clifton-Brown intends to facilitate constructive dialogue and collaboration between the County, District and Town Councils and the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to understand what concrete steps can be taken to ensure that Cirencester has the resources to thrive in the future.

Commenting on the survey, Mr Clifton-Brown said:

‘Last Saturday, the town was almost gridlocked. Unless vital infrastructure, such as car parks and extra roads are built, the town’s long term sustainability is in jeopardy.

‘I want to encourage as many people as possible to respond to this really important survey. It will only take a few minutes to complete and every submission will help decision-makers in the town to best understand what can needs there are and what can be done.

‘Car parking provision, public transport, new roads and housing are all integral to local residents and businesses and I want the Councils and the LEP to have the hard data in front of them that proves something must be done. By returning this survey, everyone can play a part in securing a viable future for the town.
