Independent sector provider, UK Specialist Hospitals (UKSH) are expected to take over the running of day care surgery at Cirencester Hospital.

Reacting to today’s announcement, Cotswolds MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown said:

“This is a wholly positive step for the future of Cirencester Hospital. Since I became the MP for Cirencester fourteen years ago, health officials have always made excuses why more surgical work cannot be done at Cirencester. This announcement refutes these excuses and is an opportunity to treble the amount of surgical work conducted at the hospital. There are two important consequences of this: firstly it gives a good base for the future, and more importantly more of the people of the Cotswolds will be treated closer to home; rather than having to travel to Cheltenham or Gloucester Hospitals.”

Mr. Clifton-Brown added: “After months of vigorous campaigning against the cuts to our health service imposed by government, it is good to see a silver lining for the future of Cirencester Hospital”.
