Local MP, Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, as called upon Gloucestershire County Council to help fund a much-needed pedestrian bridge in Moreton-in-Marsh crossing the railway line.

Sir Geoffrey was successful in securing £250,000 of funding as a result of the section 106 agreement for the Fire Service College development in the town and has urged the County Council to provide the remainder of the capital investment in this important piece of infrastructure.

The bridge, that would run parallel, to the existing road bridge would immeasurably improve pedestrian safety and allow the dismantling of the existing pavement thus giving cars and HGV’s valuable passing space.

Commenting on the bridge, Sir Geoffrey said:

“This is an extremely important piece of infrastructure that would guarantee the safety of pedestrians for the future in Moreton-in-Marsh.

“I have worked closely with County Cllr Nigel Moor on this project and Gloucestershire County Council must recognise the importance of it and provide the necessary funds. I have therefore written to the Leader Cllr Mark Hawthorne to strongly press this case.”
