On 5 June 2023, WHO announced that it will adopt the system of digital Covid-19 certification that the European Union used throughout the Covid-19 pandemic to establish a global system that will help facilitate global mobility and protect citizens across the world from on-going and future health threats. This certification was used by the EU as a tool in the fight against the pandemic but also in facilitating international travel and tourism. It is important to note that this is not a new tool, rather a tool used by the EU throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

More importantly, the UK is not a member of the EU and the WHO digital partnership, and will consider the best solution for the UK in relation to any future certification needs should they arise.
