Geoffrey Clifton-Brown questions the Government about regulation of the City post-Brexit

27th April 2017

Geoffrey Clifton-Brown questions the Government about regulation of the City post-Brexit following the French Government's warnings that it should continue to be overseen by EU regulators.

What assessment has my hon. Friend made of the French Government’s warnings that the City should continue to be overseen by EU regulators?

We recognise the importance of regulatory oversight and mutual regulatory understanding as we move towards a comprehensive trade agreement with the European Union. One thing I have learned while doing this job is the huge respect in which UK regulators are held around the whole of Europe. I think we have some of the best financial regulators in the world.

Amongst other events, I was pleased to attend the British Association of Shooting and Conservation (BASC) rural reception which I co-hosted with the Angling Trust. BASC is going from strength to strength with now over 150,000 members nationwide.
