Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP visits Coberley C of E Primary School

MP for The Cotswolds, Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, last Friday (20 January) visited Coberley Primary School to take a tour of the school.
Coberley Primary School, which was founded in 1861, currently has 67 children enrolled and is located in a wonderful, rural Gloucestershire setting. Mr Clifton-Brown also met with Mrs Jill Steeden, the School’s Headteacher, and Canon John Holder, a school Governor, to discuss the wish of the school to expand in order to meet the high local demand for places.
Commenting on his visit Mr Clifton-Brown said: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to visit Coberley C of E Primary School and I was very impressed with what I saw.”
“I pay tribute to the Headteacher, Mrs Steeden, for the work she and her staff have done in running such a good school, which has had excellent academic results and glowing Ofsted reports in recent years. This is something that is reflected in the increasing number of local parents who wish for their children to attend the school, with 20 applications for just 8 places to start in the next academic year.”
“I discussed with Mrs Steeden her desire for her school to expand in line with the Government’s policy to allow good schools to expand to meet demand and I have written on this matter to Linda Uren, the Director of Children’s Services at Gloucestershire County Council, to establish whether this will be possible.”
