Geoffrey Clifton-Brown gives a helping hand at Cirencester Delivery Office

5th December 2011

Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, MP for The Cotswolds, visited the Royal Mail’s Cirencester Delivery Office last Friday (3 December) lend a hand to the postmen and women of Cirencester as the build-up to Christmas begins.

Christmas is undoubtedly the busiest time of year for Royal Mail and their customers. On peak days around 130 million items are handled nationwide – around double the normal average daily mailbag of 62 million items. In anticipation of the build-up Royal Mail has invested an additional £15 million to increase their scale and improve flexibility during this important time of year for customers.

Commenting on his early morning visit to the Cirencester Delivery Office, Mr Clifton-Brown said: “I was very pleased to meet the majority of postmen and women who serve the Cirencester area. “

“I regard my now annual visit to the Delivery Office as an important event as it gives me an opportunity to thank , in person, our hardworking delivery staff, who often have to battle through dreadful conditions at this time of year to ensure we receive our mail on time.”

“It also gives the staff at the Delivery Office the opportunity to discuss directly with me any concerns they have. However, this was a happy visit albeit only at the beginning of the build-up towards Christmas.”
